Naafiu studied Diploma in Civil Engineering at Maldives National University and graduated in 2013 at first place in the course. He also received President’s Award for the course. Throughout the course Naafiu was an apprentice for an Accredited Engineer as a Writing Assistant. On graduation Naafiu continued to fill in more practical roles in civil engineering, working as an Assistant Site Supervisor at Pearls Millet Construction, Construction Officer at Public Works Services and as an Assistant Engineer at ArchEngineers Pvt Ltd. Later Naafiu pursued further studies at the same university and obtained a Bachelor Civil Engineering in 2019.

Naafiu started working at Design Express in 2017 and was involved in the structural design of numerous projects among which are Soneva Fushi Resort, Three A Villa, Sea Rose, Rose Field, Villa College Tower 2, LOT 11100, LOT 11104, LOT 10046, Pearl Guesthouse, Jeem Guesthouse, Dhijulathu Koaru, Silverge Aage and Fahidhoo. He also worked as the visiting engineer during the structural construction of Zonaria from July 2017 to September 2018. Today he oversees a structural design team of 3 members to whom Naafiu delegates structural design works and gives instructions and STAAD training and supervises and monitor their work.
